Welcome to September and our next Eclipse Season! Naturally, this means we will be super discerning about which dates in September we choose to work with. To avoid any issues with the notorious “baleful rays” of the eclipses, I did my best to avoid the lunations for the month.

 

Let’s recap what we are hoping for with a great election. When electing a talisman or any kind of event, we want to find our planet on the Ascendant or the Midheaven in good dignity such as domicile, exaltation, or even term and face. It should be the planetary hour of the planet we are working with–and if it’s the planet’s day as well, all the better. The planet should not be afflicted by the malefics or the nodes, and we also need to keep a keen eye on the Moon. She should be unafflicted and ideally applying in a waxing trine or sextile to the planet we are working with.

 

That’s a lot of criteria to try and match!

 

Here is what we are working with in September:

• The Sun is in Virgo until the Libra equinox on September 22
• The Moon visits each sign, as always
  • Waxing from 18 Sagittarius to 15 Pisces
  • Waning from 16 Pisces to 29 Virgo
  • Waxing again from 0 Libra to 21 Capricorn
• Mercury is domicile and exalted in Virgo from September 2 until their ingress into Libra on September 18
  • Mercury is also under the Sun’s beams and opposing Saturn the entire time they are in Virgo with their September 13 Cazimi also conjunct the South Node as the Moon wanes toward the solar eclipse
• Venus is in Leo until she ingresses her Fall in Virgo on September 19
• Mars leaves his Detriment in Libra and ingresses his Domicile of Scorpio September 22
• Jupiter is exalted, direct, and visible all month
  • Jupiter now applies to trine Saturn, which is not necessarily an affliction, but is not the best talismanic energy either.
• Saturn retrogrades back into Pisces on September 1 and remains there throughout the month
• The lunar eclipse in Pisces falls on September 7
• The solar eclipse in Virgo falls on September 21 and opposes Saturn’s curtailed passage in Pisces.

 

With all this in mind, we can finagle a decent Moon-Jupiter election out of this month, even if it is not adequate for talismanic work! In the chart below, we have the Moon applying to Jupiter in Cancer, the sign of her domcile and his exaltation. They are not rising or culminating as would be ideal, but they are in the house of Good Spirit and it is the Moon’s day and Jupiter’s hour. The ruler of the chart is Mercury, who is exalted, domicile, and in Chariot, but we do not want to work with Mercury specifically because they are still separating from their conjunction with the Sun and South Node and applying to an opposition with Saturn. This makes an inadequate talisman election, but it’s a fine day to call in the benefic energy of Jupiter and the Moon.

(NOTE: Be sure to adjust the chart for your time zone. We are looking for the Moon to be applying or conjunct Jupiter in Cancer. If it is before the sun rises, you will also have the Moon’s Day and Jupiter’s hour with both of them in the 11th House of Good Spirit)

• Prepare ritual space, using 4 red or azure candles and dressing in similarly colored clothes.
• At elected time, light the candles and burn clove, nutmeg, licorice, or mint.
