The Moon’s Nodes Shift to Aquarius/Leo: A New Chapter Begins

By Diane Trimbath

On July 26, 2026, at 8:46 pm ET, the Moon’s Nodes leave Pisces and Virgo and step into Aquarius and Leo, a significant shift in astrology and one of the only major astrological points that moves backward through the zodiac.

The Nodes are the two points where the Moon’s orbit crosses the ecliptic, the shared plane of the Earth’s orbit around the Sun. Though invisible, they form a powerful axis: the meeting point of spirit, soul, and matter, where eclipses occur and larger forces seem to take the wheel for all of us collectively. The North Node points toward growth, new learning, and collective potential. It represents territory we have not yet mastered and the direction our development is asking us to move. The South Node represents our comfort zone: the skills, habits, and instincts already ingrained from the past, some of which may have become a crutch rather than a gift. It is also where old, unresolved patterns tend to resurface, asking to finally be addressed.

Closing Out: Pisces and Virgo (Jan 29, 2025 – July 26, 2026)

For the last eighteen months, the North Node in Pisces invited us to trust the unseen by developing our intuition, imagination, compassion, and capacity for healing. Meanwhile, the South Node in Virgo highlighted the habits we were meant to release: perfectionism, overwork, excessive self-criticism, and the tendency to measure our worth by productivity or usefulness.

Beginning Now: Aquarius and Leo (July 26, 2026 – March 26, 2028)

The North Node now enters Aquarius, pulling us toward altruism, community, and reform, channeling imagination into group efforts while embracing innovation, technological advancement, and the rapidly evolving role of artificial intelligence in shaping society. It asks for detachment, rationality, and the courage of our convictions, rather than excessive worry over how we’re perceived.

The South Node settles into Leo, asking us to release ego, pride, and the constant hunger for personal recognition, along with a tendency to look away from uncomfortable truths, since self-concern can blind us to other people’s needs.

Wherever you have Aquarius and Leo in your birthchart, these areas will be significantly activated over the next 18 months, especially if your angles or planets fall here. Pluto transiting through Aquarius also adds a heightened intensity to this

Chart 1 – Nodal Entry into Leo/Aquarius – July 26, 2026, 8:46 pm, Washington D.C.

Since only the faster-moving Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Moon touch the Nodes early on, this shift will first be felt personally: a noted course correction in how we communicate, bond, act, and feel. A few dates to watch:

  • August 12, 2026: A solar eclipse at 20° Leo ignites bold self-expression and reinvention, though it warns against premature “spiritual or promotional overreach.” What’s initiated here, particularly around passion, creativity, and leadership, tends to manifest powerfully over the following six months, yet demands humility, compassion, and maturity in relationships.
  • January 6 – March 21, 2027: As the transiting Nodes reach 20° Leo/Aquarius, the degree of the previous Solar Eclipse, the eclipse themes and events are reawakened. This period may bring relief after discouragement, with long-standing worries beginning to lift, while reminding us to balance our need for personal recognition with shared contribution to the collective.
  • Mid February–Early March 2027: Jupiter meets the South Node in Leo, favoring wisdom, teaching, and philosophical growth and offering a chance to share what we’ve learned and let dormant talents surface
  • October 1, 2027: Uranus trines the North Node and sextiles the South Node, bringing flashes of genius, bold innovation, and unconventional breakthroughs, alongside a need for foresight about long-term consequences, as revolutions and changing conditions unfold for good or ill.
  • November 16-19, 2027: Pluto conjoins the North Node in Aquarius while Neptune sextiles it,  marking a period of profound transformation guided by vision and purpose. Deep conviction and creative inspiration strengthen the resolve to pursue meaningful goals, helping us persevere through obstacles and commit to lasting changes.

An Echo From the Past

The last time the Nodes occupied Aquarius and Leo was December 18-19, 2007 to August 21, 2009: years defined by the global financial crisis and Barack Obama’s historic election, the launch of the iPhone alongside the rapid rise of Facebook and Twitter, all reflecting a cluster of Aquarian (systemic, technological, collective) and Leo (leadership, spectacle, self-expression) milestones.

Choosing Belonging Over Ego

Every nodal shift is an invitation, not a verdict. We’re being asked to trade isolated striving for genuine belonging: to lead not from ego, but from service. Eighteen months from now, we may look back and see this as the moment we chose community over comparison, and courage over comfort.
