August 2025 Elections

It is a tricky yet exciting time to work with astrological magic. Jupiter is exalted in Cancer for the first time in twelve years, offering a window of time between his ingress into Cancer on June 9 of this year and his ingress into Leo on June 30, 2026. Ideally, this would be a time of creating copious Jupiter Talismans for abundance, good fortune, peace, and other Jupiterian desires using ideal timing and astrological alignments, or to begin a new venture under these exalted benefic cosmic conditions. But astrological magic is a specific art and more goes into magical considerations than just the essential dignity of a planet.

 

For talismanic elections, the planetary hour and day are also important, as is the condition and aspects of the Moon as well as the desired planet. Jupiter in Cancer teases us with his presence, but the rest of the sky is still active. Jupiter does not make his way through Cancer unwitnessed by the “bad ones” as the malefics are known in some traditional sources. Furthermore, the Moon waxes between Virgo and Aquarius at this time of year, and the ideal trine aspect to Jupiter would place the Moon in Scorpio, the sign of her fall, which afflicts her. August does not offer ideal talismanic elections just yet, however we may find days that are great elections nonetheless!

 

It may not be the most ideal time to be working with Jupiter, but we do have an alternative! The Sun will be in his domicile in Leo this month and offers a nice election with only a few considerations to keep in mind!

 

Before we dive into the Sun’s election, here is a reminder what we’re working with this month:

 

• The Sun is in domicile in Leo until his ingress to Virgo August 23
• The Moon visits each sign as always
  • Waxing from 9Scorpio31 to the Full Moon at 16Aquarius59
  • Waning from 17Aquarius to the New Moon at 0Virgo23
  • Waxing again from 1Virgo to Sagittarius at the end of the month
• Mercury is retrograde in Leo until August 11 and remains in Leo throughout the month
• Venus ingresses from Cancer to Leo on August 25
• Mars ingresses from Virgo to his detriment in Libra August 6
  • Mars will be in an applying square with Jupiter once he enters Libra and throughout the month
• Jupiter is exalted, direct, and visible all month
  • Venus-Jupiter conjunction August 12
• Saturn is retrograde and in fall in Aries all month
  • Saturn is still in a whole sign square to Jupiter while in Aries

 

We only have to wait for the weekend days in August for our opportunities to work with the Sun in domicile on his day and during his hour. To avoid Mercury’s retrograde proximity to the Sun, we look to the third Sunday of August after Mercury stations direct. The data to cast your chart for this election is as follows:

This election is easy since sunrise on Sunday is guaranteed to give you the Sun as ruler of the day and hour and the Moon will sextile the Sun from Gemini all day. Because the first planetary hour each day belongs to the planet who rules that day and begins at Sunrise, we simply have to use the Sunrise hour as our timing window. The Sun’s hour lasts roughly 68 minutes at the East Coast location I cast my chart for. Be sure to double check how long Sun hour lasts on Sun day for you. You can use a free website like astro-seek.com and click the Horary or Traditional link underneath the chart to get easy access to planetary hours for your location.

I do wish the Moon were waxing for this election, but everything else is fine. Without this caveat, I might consider making a Solar Talisman on this day. If you want to include the waning Moon in your intentions, this would be an ideal election to plan to remove any inhibitions or obstacles in the way of you and your Solar intentions (see Solar themes listed below).
