The Saturn-Neptune Conjunction Part I

A 35-Year Cycle

Lynn Koiner, PLMAFA

The Saturn-Neptune conjunction is a rare alignment that happens once every 35 to 36 years. A cycle this rare is more powerful in terms of its societal impact. Throughout world history, Saturn conjunct Neptune has brough major changes, especially for Russia. In February 2026, it will take place at 0° Aries, the world point, and its effects will be felt strongly around the world.

Occurrences in the 20th and 21st centuries include:

  • August 1917 at 4° Leo — The end of monarchies
  • November 1952 at 22° Libra; May and July 1953 at 21° Libra — Balance of peace in the Cold War
  • March, June and November 1989 at 10° and 11° Capricorn — Fall of the Berlin Wall and the dissolving of boundaries
  • February 2026 at 0° Aries — Global crises
  • June 2061 at 21° Gemini — Global alignments and partnerships
  • August 2096 at 8° Virgo — Environmental crises

  • The 1917 alignment was significant as it triggered the Russian Revolution; the independence of the east European countries from Russia; the British fighting and ultimately defeating the Turks in Gaza; and the Russian Civil War. On April 2, 1917, the U.S. declared war in Europe.

  • In 1952 and 1953, the British monarchy changed with the death of King George VI and ascension of Queen Elizabeth II to the throne. She would become Great Britain’s longest reigning monarch.

The Korean War ended in 1953, having commenced in 1950. Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were convicted as spies for the Soviet Union and electrocuted.

There were revolutions and riots, particularly in East Germany and Egypt.

In Russia, Stalin died in March 1953 and Khrushchev inaugurated a new political regime.

  • 1989 is a year that many of us will remember — the fall of communism and the dissolution, through peaceful revolutions, of the leaderships in the Soviet Republics! Independence was established for the former communist countries. There was a revolution in Russia but the country was eventually taken over by a dictator, Putin. The Tiananmen Square protests in Beijing were powerful, but eventually put down by the military.

Years ago, I wrote an article on the Saturn-Neptune conjunction esoterically viewed — a dissolving of boundaries both on earth and with the etheric web of our planet. I called it the Crisis of Disconnectedness, as we were more in touch with other dimensions. I mention this because, on Oct. 9, 1989, Russia reported a UFO landing in the southwestern city of Voronezh. Further information was never revealed, to my knowledge.

As we come to the next Saturn-Neptune alignment in 2026, looking at past events, new leadership manifested in Great Britain, Russia and, with the election of Dwight Eisenhower as president in 1952, the United States. Saturn rules structures and even the limitation of structures. Neptune dissolves structures, especially the insulating structures that we have outgrown. Hence, the impact upon leadership.

Countries with natal planets near 0° of cardinal signs, also known as the world point, are likely to be affected.

Planets near 0° Aries: Brazil, Scotland, Latvia, France, Portugal, Scotland, Egypt, Palestine

Planets near 0° Cancer: United States, India, Pakistan, Portugal, Nigeria, Italy, France, Russia

Planets near 0° Libra: Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, France, Venezuela, Russia, New Zealand, United States, Germany

Planets at 0° Capricorn: United States, Russia, Palestine, Slovenia, Mexico, Japan, Panama, Romania, Peru, Columbia, Australia, Japan, Belarus, South Korea, Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Estonia

There are others, but these countries seem the most significant. This information was taken from Nick Campion’s Book of World Horoscopes.

The Global Economy

The economic forecast does not look good under any Saturn-outer planet alignment. Historically, they are associated with recessions. Generally, recessions last only 18 months, but still long enough to wreak havoc on the middle and lower income classes.

Most serious recessions since World War II occur with an outer planet alignment with Saturn. I picked the years with the highest unemployment rates.

  • 1973 to 1975: Saturn in Gemini opposed Neptune in Sagittarius and Saturn squared Pluto
  • 2008 to 2009: Saturn in Virgo opposed Uranus in Pisces
  • 2022: Saturn conjunct Pluto in Capricorn
