The Nature of Astrology
We students of astrology all know that it is an incredible thing. We see its value in understanding ourselves and the people we interact with, and we see it as a tool in the helping professions. But there is much more to astrology than understanding symbols and learning techniques. Too much of a focus on the nuts and bolts of astrology can be like looking at the world through a tunnel. People who call themselves astrologers would likely benefit from paying more attention to the larger realities of both the past and our present moment that astrology operates within. In this talk I will discuss the reasons for astrology’s rejection in our culture, the defects in the adoption of what might be called astrological exceptionalism, the larger problems of anthropocentrism, the need for stronger theoretical, philosophical and scientific foundations and the acknowledgement that astrology could use a good overhaul.
